Is tonight a full moon

On this day, Friday, September 25, 2026, skywatchers across the globe are witnessing the peak of the Harvest Moon. Astronomers confirm that the moon reaches its full illumination phase precisely during this evening, marking a significant celestial event for the month. This particular full moon is traditionally known as the Harvest Moon because it occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, which took place earlier this week. The lunar disk appears exceptionally bright and large as it rises shortly after sunset, providing extended hours of natural light that historically assisted farmers with late-season harvesting. Observers in most regions can expect the moon to remain visible throughout the night, weather permitting, as it travels across the sky. While there are no rare astronomical phenomena like a supermoon or lunar eclipse associated with this specific cycle, the clear atmospheric conditions of late September are expected to offer excellent viewing opportunities for amateur astronomers and casual observers alike. The next full moon is scheduled to occur in late October.
