Is jake ferguson related to terrance ferguson

As of 22 September 2026, public interest remains high regarding the potential familial connection between Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson and former NBA player Terrance Ferguson. Despite the shared surname and their respective prominence in professional sports, there is no evidence to suggest that the two athletes are related. Jake Ferguson, who played collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin before being drafted into the NFL, hails from a family with deep athletic roots in Madison, Wisconsin, including his grandfather Barry Alvarez, the legendary former football coach and athletic director. Conversely, Terrance Ferguson, who was selected in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft, grew up in Oklahoma and has no documented genealogical link to the Wisconsin-based Ferguson family. The confusion appears to stem entirely from the commonality of their last name rather than any biological kinship. Sports analysts and genealogical researchers have consistently confirmed that the two men are not brothers, cousins, or otherwise related, marking the persistent rumors as a case of mistaken identity within the sports media landscape.
