Alex anzalone lions

On 7 October 2026, the Detroit Lions officially announced a multi-year contract extension for veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone, securing his presence in the team's defensive core through the 2028 season. The agreement comes as a reward for Anzalone’s consistent leadership and high-level performance as the primary signal-caller for the Lions' defense. Since joining the franchise, he has become a cornerstone of head coach Dan Campbell’s defensive scheme, frequently leading the team in tackles and demonstrating exceptional football intelligence on the field. The organization emphasized that retaining Anzalone was a top priority as they continue their pursuit of a championship. The linebacker has been instrumental in the team's defensive turnaround over the past several seasons, providing stability and veteran experience to a younger roster. Following the signing, Anzalone expressed his commitment to the city of Detroit and his desire to finish his career with the organization. This extension ensures that the Lions maintain continuity in their defensive leadership as they navigate the remainder of the 2026 campaign and look toward future seasons.
