Abandoned cats in plastic boxes

On 7 October 2026, local animal control services in a suburban district launched an investigation following the discovery of several abandoned cats trapped inside sealed plastic storage boxes. The incident, which occurred in a residential park, was reported by a passerby who heard muffled noises coming from the containers left near a wooded trail. Upon arrival, responders found three adult cats suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion due to the lack of ventilation in the makeshift enclosures. Veterinarians who treated the animals confirmed that they had been confined for at least twenty-four hours before being discovered. Local law enforcement is currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes to identify the individual responsible for the act. Animal welfare advocates have expressed outrage over the cruelty of the method, noting that the use of plastic boxes poses a severe suffocation risk. The cats are currently recovering in a local shelter and are expected to be available for adoption once they are medically cleared and rehabilitated.
