Rot-weiss essen vs rb leipzig

On 27 October 2026, anticipation is building for the upcoming DFB-Pokal second-round clash between third-tier side Rot-Weiss Essen and Bundesliga powerhouse RB Leipzig. Scheduled to take place at the Stadion an der Hafenstraße, the match represents a classic David versus Goliath encounter in German football. Rot-Weiss Essen, currently competing in the 3. Liga, earned their spot in this round after a hard-fought victory in the opening stage and are looking to leverage their passionate home support to pull off a historic upset. Conversely, RB Leipzig enters the fixture as heavy favorites, aiming to maintain their momentum in domestic cup competitions while managing a demanding schedule that includes European commitments. Managerial staff for Leipzig have emphasized the need for professional focus to avoid a potential "giant-killing" scenario, a common occurrence in the early stages of the DFB-Pokal. Both teams are finalizing their tactical preparations, with Essen expected to adopt a defensive, counter-attacking strategy, while Leipzig prepares to dominate possession and utilize their superior squad depth to secure a place in the round of 16.
