Why is angel reese not playing today

On 8 September 2026, it was officially announced that Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese would miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season. The decision followed a medical evaluation that confirmed a season-ending wrist injury sustained during a recent game. Reese, who had been enjoying a standout sophomore campaign, expressed her disappointment in a statement, noting that the injury required surgical intervention to ensure a full recovery for the upcoming year. The team confirmed that she would undergo the procedure immediately to begin her rehabilitation process. Her absence marks a significant blow to the Chicago Sky’s rotation as they navigate the final stretch of the regular season and look toward potential playoff positioning. The organization emphasized that prioritizing her long-term health was the primary factor in the decision to shut her down for the year. Fans and teammates have rallied around the star forward, who had been a dominant force in rebounding and interior defense throughout the 2026 season.
