Jessica pegula leylah fernandez us open

On 31 August 2024, American tennis star Jessica Pegula secured a decisive victory over Canada’s Leylah Fernandez during the third round of the US Open. Playing in front of a supportive home crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the sixth-seeded Pegula utilized her tactical consistency and powerful baseline game to overcome the 2021 US Open finalist. The match concluded with a score of 6-2, 6-3, marking a significant milestone for Pegula as she continued her pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title. Throughout the contest, Pegula maintained high first-serve percentages and effectively neutralized Fernandez’s aggressive left-handed forehand. While Fernandez showed flashes of her trademark resilience, she struggled to find rhythm against Pegula’s disciplined defensive play and precise shot placement. This victory underscored Pegula’s strong form during the North American hard-court swing, propelling her into the second week of the tournament. The result highlighted the contrasting trajectories of the two players at that stage of the season, with Pegula solidifying her status as a top-tier contender in the women’s draw.
