Is baker mayfield out for the season

As of 1 November 2026, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is not out for the season. Following a concerning lower-body injury sustained during the team's Week 8 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, medical evaluations conducted on 27 October 2026 confirmed that Mayfield suffered a Grade 2 high-ankle sprain rather than a season-ending fracture or ligament tear. While the injury will force him to miss the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs, team doctors and head coach Todd Bowles have expressed optimism regarding his recovery timeline. The medical staff anticipates that Mayfield will be sidelined for approximately two to three weeks, targeting a return to the starting lineup following the team's Week 10 bye. Backup quarterback Kyle Trask has been named the starter for the immediate future while Mayfield undergoes intensive rehabilitation. The organization has officially ruled out placing him on injured reserve, signaling their confidence that he will return to lead the offense during the final stretch of the regular season.
